Berrick Abramson, President
Confluence is led by Berrick Abramson, a nationally respected policy thought-leader, facilitator and strategist. Projects and client engagements are led and staffed by a diverse team with backgrounds in government, business, public policy, education, economic and workforce development, and the nonprofit space.
As President, Berrick oversees all aspects of Confluence’s work and is directly involved in most projects. He brings a diverse background in public policy, international affairs, technology and finance. Berrick is nationally recognized as a highly skilled executive facilitator, negotiator and strategist. He is often personally requested by senior state officials and business leaders to facilitate high-stakes, contentious, complex or time-sensitive matters that require strong facilitation from a seasoned professional with his unique approach and combination of government and private sector experience.
Berrick’s policy work has included policy research, development, advancement and implementation in states across the country. He oversees work at every level of government from municipal, county, regional and state to federal and several international efforts. Drawing on his time in both the private and public sectors he leads a variety of projects with local and state governments and government agencies with a focus on operational efficiencies and consensus building strategies. Berrick is a nationally respected thought leader with more than two decades of experience in public policy and has been a trusted senior advisor to a number of local, state and federal officials. He had led work on a variety of complex policies ranging from fiscal policy and transportation funding to the use of federal funds in different programs, creating comprehensive strategic plans at the local and state level and supporting officials establishing legislative priorities.
Prior to becoming President at Confluence PSG, Berrick was Senior Policy Director at a non-profit policy and mediation organization where he built and led the good government, education and workforce practices and managed the healthcare center. Before establishing and building those practices, Berrick led the Policy & Government Affairs team of a 400+ person national non-profit where he oversaw state policy and state strategic planning efforts nationally. Berrick began his career in corporate finance where he worked on the institutional sales/trading desk of one of the nation’s largest investment banks in San Francisco, led debt and municipal underwriting for a mid-sized firm and later founded and led a boutique venture consulting firm where he led over $1bn in transactions.
Berrick is an avid adventure race competitor, skydiver, long-distance ocean paddler and outdoors enthusiast. In addition to his involvement in his own community and in ocean conservation efforts globally, Berrick became active in efforts to support awareness and research for Crohn’s Disease when an aggressive form of the disease was nearly fatal for him in 2019. Since 2019, Berrick has also served as a mentor for start-up founders through TechStars, working with two to three start-up businesses each year for the past five years.
Carrie Steele, Senior Project Manager
As senior project manager, Carrie oversees most of the administrative and operational aspects of client projects and coordinates project teams. Carrie has over 15 years of experience in government, non-profit and corporate finance sectors and extensive project coordination, management and oversight experience across each. She has managed dozens of multi-party involved projects that have ranged from fast paced single month efforts to multi-month and multi-year projects. These have ranged from policy design and issue advocacy to multi-national corporate mergers and acquisitions as well as leading a well-known non-profit organization’s highest profile international events. She has planned and executed small- and large-scale events for high-profile clients across the country, often requiring the highest level of respect and discretion. Over the years, Carrie has built trusted relationships with business, government and community leaders and has mastered the art of keeping multiple parties at different locations all moving toward and meeting critical outcomes and deadlines. Carrie is passionate about animals and especially supportive of rescue organizations. Her biggest joys are spending quality time with her family including two children and grandson, spending time in nature, hiking and camping and traveling to new places.
